The enactment of the Law on the Crime of Sexual Violence (UU TPKS) in April 2022 marked a major step in strengthening legal certainty and protections for victims of sexual violence in Indonesia. The law establishes definitions and sanctions for sexual violence offences, introduces special legal procedures to overcome barriers to justice, ensures restitution and victim assistance funds, and provides mechanisms for victim handling, protection, and recovery through an integrated service framework. It also promotes community and family participation in prevention efforts and mandates monitoring by relevant ministries, national human rights institutions, and civil society organizations.
